Vale Edward (Ted) Brown

Cobar Rugby League lost one of its most loyal members with the passing of Edward Howard Brown better known as Ted when he passed away on June 20, aged 83. Ted had been associated with Cobar Rugby League for the past 60 odd years as a player, committee person and voluntary groundsman. Ted played in Group 15 for 15 years winning four premierships from 1954-57 then joining the local committee.

He was voluntary groundperson at the Tom Knight Memorial Oval for the past 19 years. There was not a day go by that he was not sighted there. Ted was made a Life Member in 2006 and in 2008 he was also made a life member of Cobar Minor League of which he assisted in forming in 1967. Ted received Australia Day awards for contribution to Cobar Sport in 2001 and 2011. In May this year Cobar Rugby League named the Dugout at the Tom Knight Memorial Oval after Ted. Although Ted had not been well the last couple of years his dedication to the upkeep of his beloved Oval was still formost in his mind.

The past few months were spent between healthcare facilities at Carrara House on the Gold Coast where he was in March visited by a group of Gold Coast Men of League members headed by Vice Presiden John Sattler, Cobar Hospital and the loving care of wife Fay and family at his home in Longworth Street.

Ted is survived by wife Fay children Alex, Robert, David, Geoffrey and Lynette.
