Gala Day at Gerringong a Great Success

Men of League wish to acknowledge the great hospitality of the Gerringong club who hosted one of our best gala days so far on Saturday 20 August. President Daryl Hobbs and his committee went out of their way to make the day a success and promote the Men of League cause and the funds raised reflected their efforts.

Supporters of the Gerringong, Albion Park and Bateman’s Bay (under 18s) gave generously and snapped up every ticket in the Men of League raffle. Not only was the Men of League promotion a great success, the on-field action was fantastic with a very competitive 1st grade encounter enthralling the marge crowd who were very vocal, though all support was good natured and reflected the competitive spirit and good sportsmanship of both clubs.

For the record, Albion Park overcame the host club, however they may be in battle again next week in the 1st round of Group 7 finals and many at the ground believe they may also meet in the decider.

A feature of the day that the crowd thoroughly enjoyed was the Old Boys touch game that saw more tackles than touches and some entertaining moments. A highlight of the touch game was the 1st try to the Gerringong Blue Bags which saw one of the clubs great supporters and a local identity named Brodie who through his own circumstances has never been able to play for his beloved Lions, receive the last pass and beat several defenders to dive over and bring the crowd to its feet. Brodie then jumped the rope to give his mother a kiss and acknowledged his significant fan base on the hill as he took his place for the kick off.

Men of League would like to thank everyone involved at Mick Cronin Oval for a great day and a great show of support for Men of League which was capped off by generous donations from both Old Boys groups at the post match presentations.
