Wynnum Manly Rugby League lost one of its local favorite sons this week, with the passing of Bradley Morgan aged 47.
Brad Morgan started his career through the Wynnum Manly Juniors, making his way through into the senior ranks, debuting for Wynnum Manly in 1983 and finishing his successful career in 1995.
His time in representing the Wynnum Manly juniors was later recognized with being named the fullback in the Wynnum Manly Juniors ‘Team of the Century”.
Whilst Brad Morgan predomently played reserve grade at the start of his senior career due to Wynnum Manly having Australian and Queensland fullback Colin Scott as part of their roster, he was always part of the top squad in Wynnum Manly’s dream teams of the 1980’s.
Brad would have played A Grade on a week by week basis for any other Brisbane Rugby League Club during this period, but his heart and loyalty for the Seagulls would not allow him to ever contemplate playing for any other club.
One of Brad’s greatest on field moments was taking the field in the 1984 Wynnum Manly Grand Final team, arguably known as one of the greatest ever club sides assembled in the Brisbane and Sydney Rugby Leagues.
Even when the Wynnum Manly Football Club hit hard financial times in the late 1980’s, his commitment to Wynnum Manly was unwavering.
Brad was known as a competent fullback with speed, elusiveness and always gave 100% whenever taking the field for the mighty red and greens.
The Wynnum Manly Queensland Cup side will wear black armbands in respect at their next home game versus the Central Comets.
