Launch of the New Mid West Local Committee

Men of League is set to kick off in the Mid West with a launch of the new local committee scheduled for SATURDAY AUGUST 7 at the BATHURST CITY PANTHERS BOWLING CLUB.

Founded in 2002, the Men of League core focus is to support people from all levels of the Game who have suffered an injury or illness and are in financial hardship, from grass roots canteen staff through to former NRL stars.

The purpose of the upcoming event in Bathurst is to form the inaugural Mid West committee for the Men of League and to commence fundraising activities for the Foundation – starting with a benefit day for Bruce “Sleepy” Smith.

Sleepy, who has recently undergone a Kidney transplant following many years on a dialysis, played/volunteered for Bathurst Railway and Bathurst Penguins senior and junior rugby league in the late 70s through until the mid 90s.

“The Mid West committee of the Men of League will focus on the Group 10 Mid West NSW area, extending a helping hand to former rugby league people who are doing it tough,” said event organiser Paul Rossiter.

“We are urging players, officials past and present from senior and junior clubs across the Group to come along and support the cause as we look to spread our support across the district.”

Proceedings will commence at 2pm with a meeting to formalise the MOL Mid West committee. After the meeting the Bruce “Sleepy” Smith benefit function will commence with a memorabilia auction.

Tickets are available from Paul Rossiter before the event or on the day, however RSVP is required by 5pm Wednesday August 4.
