2012 Annual Men of League Orange Golf Day


On the 3rd of February the Men of League Mid West committee organised a golf day event at the Duntryleague to raise funds for the Men of League Foundation.

Lead by local character and Men of League Mid West members Badger Babbage, Bambi Kent, the golf event was a success for the second year running.

Although the weather was forecast to rain during the week the event continued as Babbage kept positive that the day would go ahead, many thanks to the green staff at Duntryleague, and by lunch time the weather was clear enough for some golf action, and towards the end of play and with some luck the overcast clouds, turned into sunshine.

The dinner event had Former Eastern Suburbs/Penrith/Canterbury player and Men of League vice president Jim Hall as one of three Men of League guest speaker, one of rugby leagues legends of the game and Men of League board honouree Noel Kelly shared his test experience and footy knowledge also Former Eastern Suburbs, Parramatta Eels legend and Men of League honouree welfare officer John “Bomber” Peard as the entertainer for the event, and boy he was at his best and there was not one person in that room, bursting out of laughter at “Bomber” hilarious yarns, it was that good he was requested for an encore performance. Other former players in the like of Geoff Gerald, Greg Banderia, Peter Mortimer, Ron Hilidtch, Ed Sulkowicz, Michael Sullivan , Cyril Peel, John Grieves Local greats James Grant Troy Campbell, Dave McLeod, Ted Kelly, John Tilston. Ex Cowra stars, Greg Fearnley, Billy and Bob Hilton , Blayney great Steve Mooney, Mudgee veterans Allan Wacker Bull, Ginger George ,Peter Hickman, Bathurst Boys Royce George, Mitch Luka, Baradine great Big Ken Campbell, took part in the golf day event as well. Also on the day we had visits from the boys up north on there way home from a wet race day at Hawkesbury Buzz Noonan. The Great EARL HARRISON and the rest of the boys from Gilgandra. The major raffle prize of the day was won by the local president John Cook, 2nd prize by Gilgandra member Ross Nangle a great thanks to all those who supported the raffle and thank you to our leading BBQ Veteran the flying Teddy Porch.
