Kane Fleeton really appreciated the visit from John Peard

On the 30th October Men of League funny man Johnny Peard and his chauffer, Welfare Officer Velu Nuumaalii visited Kane Fleeton and Doug Walkenden at Royal North Shore hospital.

Kane recently had a motor bike accident where he dislocated his neck and damaged his spinal cord. This has left him an incomplete quadriplegic. He is currently in the spinal ward rehabilitating with a lot of physiotherapy. With the support of his family and friends, he is determined to get as much movement back as he can and hopes to return home soon.

Kane played in the Central Coast competition throughout his juniors and into senior age groups.

Earlier that day Noel “Ned” Kelly visited Kane Fleeton and had a good chat with him. Velu and Kane had a long conversation about the journey ahead for him as Velu shared his personal experience with his recovery from spinal injury in 2006, where he dislocated his neck playing Rugby League. Johnny Peard made Kane smile with his hilarious jokes.

Noel also caught up with his old mate William “Doug” Walkenden & notified Velu & Peardy that he was there.

Johnny Peard and Velu then went to the cardiac ward where they stopped by to see how Doug was recovering.

Doug played from the early 1960’s –19 70 for Western Suburbs but was originally from the Manly Sea Eagles. He was described by good friend “Ned” Kelly, as a “lanky second rower who always rolled up his sleeves and was a bloody tough player”

Recently Doug has had heart problems and has been admitted to hospital to aid his recovery.
